Whimsical Girls Room

Whimsical Little Girls Room

The wallpaper and sloped ceilings are my two favorite things in this space. Decorating little girls rooms is seriously so fun. I was really worried about transitioning Lila into her big girl room and was worried for nothing. As a mom I feel like the things I worry about end up being no big deal. The first night in her new room she slept the whole night. She came down in the morning and says “Hi mom!”  Like no big deal…what in the world? She’s growing up so fast and I wanted to make her room something she could grow into.

One of her favorite things to do is play dress up, so that was one thing I wanted to focus on. She’s a girly girl through and through and is all about the shoes, necklaces and dresses. Don’t ask me how often these dresses are actually hanging up, because it’s a rare occasion…

I knew I wanted to do a fun wallpaper and when I stumbled across this one from Anthropologie it stopped me in my tracks. It was easy to design the room around the wallpaper. Anthropologie has a tea towel in the same print, so I bought one to make a pillow cover. It worked out really well to take with me when I was sourcing items for her room. I simply matched the color scheme to the fabric sample. Love the colors ~ I mean how can she not be happy with these whimsical flowers surrounding her?

The bed was actually my sisters old bed, which was black. Black didn’t suit the room, so I figured I’d just paint it with Annie Sloan White Chalk Paint. Well it looks beautiful but goodness gracious… it was a labour of love. The spindles only took about 8 hours to paint. Note to self ~ next time you want to paint spindles use spray paint. Although I do LOVE how it turned out and am a huge Annie Sloan fan… as you can see from the retro dresser I also refinished.

Update your soft and subtle nursery into a big girl room when your crib is ready to become a day bed.
